Green Economy & Sustainable Livelihoods - Samanvaya is pleased to launch a new series of perspective-building, skill development, and knowledge enhancement programmes under its Green Economy & Sustainable Livelihoods initiative.
This new offering builds on nearly a decade of experience in advancing sustainable livelihoods and community-led development. Between 2015 and 2023, Samanvaya conceptualized and helped establish the Sustainable Livelihood Institute (SLI) as a collaborative initiative between the Tamil Nadu Government and the Auroville Foundation. Through this pioneering venture, more than 8,000 community women leaders were trained in sustainable livelihood practices and entrepreneurship, while over 500 government officials were sensitized to the design and implementation of sustainable livelihood programmes across diverse regions.
During the formative years of the Institute, the Director of Samanvaya also served as the Director of SLI, providing strategic leadership and helping shape its vision and growth. Over the course of the initiative, more than 25 specialized learning programmes were designed and delivered, each tailored to the unique needs of different agro-ecological zones. Supported by Auroville’s distinctive ecosystem of innovation, sustainability, and community engagement, these programmes created meaningful opportunities for learning, experimentation, and long-term impact.
The Green Economy & Sustainable Livelihoods portfolio carries forward this rich legacy, offering practitioners, institutions, policymakers, and community leaders the knowledge, skills, and perspectives needed to build resilient livelihoods and sustainable local economies.
